Reparations … Who Should Pay?

The Conservative Pundit Posted on August 7, 2019 by adminAugust 7, 2019

Republicans need to know their history before the Democrats re-write it.

By Nina May

On November 4th, 2008, history was made when the first black man was elected President of the United States. This was a long time coming and would have happened a lot sooner if a segment of society had not prevented blacks from integrating into society and  rising to power .

Shortly after the end of the Civil War, in 1865, 23 black men were elected to Congress and the Senate. Seven of them had been slaves. All 23 of these black congressmen belonged to the newly formed Republican party. Lincoln was the first president ever to be elected from this abolitionist party that was founded in 1854, just six years before Lincoln was elected.

The Democrat party was exactly the opposite and was even willing to go to war over the issue of State’s Rights to determine they could keep slavery alive. The Democrat Party’s website is missing 100 years of civil rights history . . . while the Republicans can show that they have consistently been supporters of civil rights, equal rights, voting rights for blacks and women and opposition to government control over individual liberties. Six of the first nine planks in their original platform dealt with abolition, equal rights, voting rights for all African-Americans and all slaves that would be liberated.

The first Democrat, black member of the House of Representatives, was Barbara Jordan, in 1965 … 100 years after the war had been fought that divided the nation over freedom vs. oppression. The Democrats were willing to kill their fellow Americans to keep slavery alive. (See Kansas/Nebraska Act and Missouri Compromise for more details.)

Almost all the newly formed state Republican parties in Southern states were started by blacks. Not all had been slaves but they all identified with the party of Lincoln … the Republican Party. In 1866 there was a massacre at the Republican National Convention in New Orleans. Here is a blurb from the HarpWeek Commentary:  Amphitheatrum Johnsonian – Massacre of the Innocents at New Orleans – July 30, 1866

“The Committee of Congress appointed to investigate the riot in New Orleans on July 30, 1866, have lately presented a report, giving a full history of the tragedy. It is shown by that record that the riotous attack upon the Republican Convention, with its terrible results of massacre and murder, was planned and executed by the Mayor of New Orleans [Democrat], and that it had the countenance of President Johnson [Democrat], without which it would never have taken place.

“Of those known to be killed 34 were colored, of the severely wounded 40, of the slightly wounded 79. Preparations for the massacre were made under the shield of the municipal authorities [Democrat] for some time before it took place. ”

How similar is that to NYC Mayor DeBlasio (D) turning a blind eye to the treatment of police on the streets.  Or Cong. Maxine Waters (D) suggesting violence against Republicans and Trump supporters.  They are both members of the same party the Mayor of New Orleans, the president, and the municipal authorities, belonged to.

Democrat congressman, Preston Brooks almost caned Republican Senator Charles Sumner to death for continuing to speak against slavery on the floor of the Senate. When he came back to the Senate after three years of rehabilitation, the first thing he did was introduce another bill to ban slavery. He was not intimidated and never backed down. He was also one of the original founders of the Republican party.

After their defeat in the civil war, the Democrats instituted Jim Crow laws to keep black Republicans from voting because at that time, all liberated slaves belonged to the party of Lincoln. The Democrats knew it, and that is why THEY came up with Jim Crow. It was not about white vs. black … it was the Democrats disenfranchising newly liberated black slaves.

Newly elected black representatives had to go armed to congress because their lives were continually threatened by Democrats who actually had a “hit card” with the photos of all the “radical Republicans” on one side and their names on the back. They knew all blacks were Republican, but they weren’t sure about whites. They wanted confirmation before committing murder.

The perception in America is that all whites discriminated against blacks and that the battle over slavery was white vs. black, not right vs. wrong. There were hundreds of outspoken white leaders who fought for the liberation of the slaves.

What would cause a white man to risk his life for black slaves that he had never met? Not only risk his life, but found an entire political party based on that very issue? This group of white men became known as Radical Republicans . . . Thaddeus Stevens, Charles Sumner, Joshua Giddings, Benjamin Wade, Owen Lovejoy, Henry Winter Davis, George W. Julian, Benjamin Butler, Joseph Medill, Horace Greeley, Oliver Morton, John Logan, Elihu Washburne, Schuyler Colfax, Zachariah Chandler, Hannibal Hamlin, John Andrew, William Lloyd Garrison, and Henry Wilson.

They not only favored the abolition of slavery, but thought that these freed slaves should have complete equality with white citizens. They opposed the Fugitive Slave Act and the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Some were even critical of Abraham Lincoln when he was slow to recruit black soldiers into the Union Army.

In addition to these abolitionist leaders, more than 300,000 whites gave their lives in a war fought to end slavery. It is this same passion and moral urgency, of freedom vs. oppression that compels people today to speak out against abortion and the current genocide that is occurring in the black community.

It only took a handful of dedicated people to change the course of history in the United States, and within just 11 years of the founding of the Republican Party, they  fought and won a war that liberated thousands of slaves. Then the Republicans unanimously passed the 13th Amendment to outlaw slavery . . . the 14th Amendment to give total equal rights to the newly liberated slaves . . . and the 15th Amendment to give voting rights as well. All three of these Amendments were unanimously opposed by the Democrat party.

So . . . should their families have to pay reparations if a bill is presented to them? What about the families of the 300,000 whites northerners who lost their lives in the Civil War over the issue of slavery? Should they receive reparations from the party that fought a war to keep slavery alive?

The battles that we see to this day on the issue of race was fought, and won over 150 years ago and racism was supposed to die.  Instead, the great liberator, Abraham Lincoln, was killed, leaving the job of Reconstruction to his Vice President, Andrew Johnson, who was an anti-abolitionist Democrat.

Radical Republicans in Congress moved quickly to change Johnson’s poorly executed Reconstruction program. Their first step was to refuse to seat any Senator or Representative from the old Confederacy. They then passed the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which said freed slaves should be classified as American citizens and made discrimination illegal.

In an early attempt at immediate reparations, Radical Republicans declared that Southern plantations should be taken from their owners and divided among the former slaves.

They also attacked Democrat President, Andrew Johnson, when he tried to veto the extension of the Freedman’s Bureau, the Civil Rights Bill and the Reconstruction Acts. However, the Radical Republicans were able to get the Reconstruction Acts passed in 1867 and 1868.

The government promised former slaves the opportunity to buy or lease 40 acres of unoccupied lands that had been confiscated by the Union. They also promised to loan the ex-slaves a federal government mule.

Many former slaves took advantage of the opportunity and became free farmers. During Reconstruction, however, much of the leased land was confiscated and returned to Democrat, Confederate loyalists. Despite this, Black farmers persevered, and by 1910, Black farmers had acquired approximately 16 million acres of farmland. By 1920, African-Americans owned 925,000 farms in the United States.

But gradually, Democrats began to take back control over Southern state governments when their newly formed terrorist arm of the Democrat party, the Ku Klux Klan, was able to frighten blacks from voting in elections. Blacks were voting 100 percent Republican at that time and controlled many of the southern state legislatures.

The last substantial victory for the Radical Republicans in Congress was the passage of the Ku Klux Act in 1871, that gave the president the power to  intervene in troubled states on behalf of blacks being harassed by this terrorist arm of the Democratic party. The new face of domestic terrorism, replacing the white hoods with black masks is a radical group called Antifa that is praised and supported by Democrat leaders.

There are many issues to consider when discussing reparations, including the fact that not one person alive today was either a slave in America, or owned a slave in America.

Slavery is now history in America. Unfortunately, this can’t be said for some other countries around the world, where slavery exists today. And if sex slavery is added to that list, then America is as guilty as these countries around the world.

Today, the debate continues over reparations, and questions remain:  Which blacks in America today are descendants from slaves? Which blacks today are immigrants, or the descendants of immigrants who were never slaves in the United States?

Which whites today are descended from slave owners?

Which whites are descended from Northerners who fought and died to end slavery? Which whites today are immigrants, or descendants of immigrants who arrived after slavery ended?

The Democrats ignored the civil rights laws that the Republicans established during and after the Civil War and moved to legalize segregation through decisions like Plessy v. Fergusen (separate but equal). That was overturned during the tenure of Republican President, Eisenhower when ALL the southern states had Democrat governors who were keeping black children from attending public school.

The Republicans fought to integrate the public schools while governors, like Democrat Gov. J.L. Almond of Va., actually shut down public schools to keep from seeing them integrated. The current Democrat Governor of Va., true to form, suggests it’s ok to kill a baby after it is delivered. Democrats have not changed their position on children’s rights to either have a good education or even live. Slavery has morphed into Abortion as their new cause to champion.

The first movie shown in the White House, was when Democrat Woodrow Wilson was president. It was Birth of A Nation … a pro KKK movie. Almost all key leaders in the Democrat party were members of the KKK … they marched proudly with their little white hoods down Pennsylvania Ave., ALL were Democrats … still vilifying all things Republican.

Democrat Senator Robert Byrd, W.Va. was a Grand Wizzard in the KKK and a mentor of Hillary Clinton. He was called the “conscience of the Senate” by Democrat Senator Chris Dodd and many others even though he frequently used the N-Word and was an unrepentant member of the KKK. Joe Biden and Barak Obama eulogized him at his funeral, praising his contributions to society … ignoring his racist past.

Al Gore’s father joined Senator Byrd in the Filibuster to oppose the Civil Rights Act of 1965, which as it turned out, was already the 14th Amendment of the Constitution but had been ignored by Democrats for decades. And the Civil Rights Act of 1866 was totally ignored by the Democrats as they began to level the accusation of racists at Republicans who, by this time were ignorant of their rich history of Civil Rights.

Senator J. William Fulbright (AK-D), was an avowed segregationist, who opposed Brown v. Board of Education, filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964, voted against the 1965 Voting Rights Act, he signed the Southern Manifesto, and would be the mentor to a future Democrat President, Bill Clinton.

The Republican party is clueless about their history, why they were founded, and how they should deal with the discussion of “Reparations.” The answer is not to say this all happened 150 years ago because their segregationist, racist tactics still continue today. The answer is …. let’s look at the facts and argue from a position of moral authority.

We produced a documentary fourteen years ago to answer the charge of Reparations. We say … let’s have that discussion because all the facts point to the Democrats being the party of slavery, oppression, violence, divisive and deadly behaviour, segregation and dishonesty. The link is … https://vimeo.com/229582720

Our other production called “Emancipation Revelation Revolution” looks at the history of the civil rights movement in America, the role that both parties played, and what happens to conservative blacks who leave the liberal plantation and identify with the Party of Lincoln. The link is https://vimeo.com/246643384

There is something both parties could vote on immediately to begin the discussion of reparations. The first black senator was Republican, Hiram Revels. He should have his name on the Russell Senate Office Building. They wouldn’t even have to change the initials. It would still be RSOB. And it would be an example of perfect justice in the spirit of reparations because Senator Russell was a racist segregationist  … and a Democrat.

If the Democrats oppose that first step at Reparations, then it means they are not serious about healing a devastating past of discrimination and racism that they caused.

So we say, let’s have that discussion … let’s analyze the facts and see who is responsible to pay reparations to those descendants of slaves. And the conclusion will be that the bill needs to tacked firmly to the door of the Democrat National Committee. The Republicans should then submit their bill for their families who fought to end slavery and were killed in battle.

Then women need to seek reparations because the Democrats fought to keep women from voting while the true civil rights party, the Republicans, ensured suffrage would become law.

All the blacks, alive today, who were humiliated, denied access to public schools or venues, kept in segregated schools and neighborhoods, should also tack their bill to that same Democrat door.

Black America needs to be reintroduced to the party that was founded to liberate their ancestors … the Republican party. And if anyone, or any group, should pay reparations for past racial offenses, it should be the Democratic Party.

Even though a black man — or woman — could have been elected president long before 2008, it serves no purpose to dwell in the past. We should celebrate those who gave their lives to end slavery, and condemn those who prevented this day from coming for more than a century. And we should look forward, not look back.

We need to become literate of our history or the left will, once again, change the facts of history and pin their crimes on everyone else.
